Tenure Track Assistant Professor in »Process Robotics in Bioprocess Engineering«
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Tenure Track Assistant Professor in »Process Robotics in Bioprocess Engineering« to begin as soon as possible. The position is a W2 fixed-term (6-year) tenure-track professorship with the possibility for promotion to a tenured W3.
Scientific Environment
The professorship will be assigned to the Department of Energy and Process Engineering at the TUM School of Engineering and Design and is affiliated with:
- The Integrative Research Institute (IRI) of Integrated Materials, Energy and Process Engineering (MEP)
- The Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MIRMI)
Responsibilities
- Research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists.
- Expertise in an interdisciplinary field combining bioprocess engineering, automation, and process optimization.
- Application of modern robotics methods, such as:
- Stochastic and data-driven learning approaches
- Precise monitoring and control using microcontrollers (μC)
- Novel methods of image processing
- Research experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Machine learning (e.g., deep learning) for process models
- Optimization of bioprocess development workflows across different scales (e.g., multi-fidelity Bayesian optimization)
- Teaching responsibilities in bachelor’s and master’s programs, including courses such as:
- Industrial Biotechnology
- Pharmaceutical Bioprocess Engineering
Qualifications
- Demonstrated initial scientific achievements and capacity for independent research at the highest international level.
- University degree and an outstanding doctoral degree (or equivalent scientific qualification).
- Pedagogical aptitude.
