Tenure Track Assistant Professor (W2) in »Implantable Brain-Computer Interfaces«

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Tenure Track Assistant Professor in »Implantable Brain-Computer Interfaces« to begin as soon as possible. The position is a W2 fixed-term (6-year) tenure-track professorship with the possibility for promotion to a tenured W3.

Scientific Environment

The professorship will be assigned to the TUM School of Medicine and Health and affiliated with the Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence. It will be embedded in an outstanding interdisciplinary environment for the translation and implementation of neurotechnologies, with close collaboration among experts at TUM in neuroscience, neurosurgery, engineering, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

TUM’s scientific environment offers excellent opportunities for collaboration with leading clinical and basic research scientists at TUM, at the TUM University Hospital, and across the Munich metropolitan region. Scientific excellence is supported by outstanding research infrastructure and state-of-the-art platform technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Research and teaching, as well as the promotion of early-career scientists.
  • Development of the next generation of robust, long-term stable, and scalable implantable brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) with a focus on systems architecture and integration.
  • Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor’s and master’s programs, as well as in the PhD programs of the TUM School of Medicine and Health.

Qualifications

  • Initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international level.
  • University degree and an outstanding doctoral degree (or equivalent scientific qualification).
  • Pedagogical aptitude.
  • Substantial research experience abroad (see www.tum.de/en/faculty-recruiting-faq/ for further information).
  • Profound expertise in design and/or signal-decoding related to implantable brain-computer interface technologies.
  • Strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and the ability to attract competitive third-party funding.
  • Commitment to acquiring and leading collaborative research projects.
