The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Professor in » Aerodynamics « W2 Tenure Track Assistant Professor (with tenure track to W3) or W3 Associate/Full Professor; to begin as soon as possible.
Scientific environment
The professorship will be assigned to the TUM Department of Aerospace and Geodesy at the TUM School of Engineering and Design.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists.
The successful candidate is expected to perform research at the frontier of fundamental and applied aerodynamics with a focus on air transport systems and physics of flight. Main research directions can be in one or more of the following areas:
- aerodynamics of transport and highly agile aircraft configurations
- unconventional vehicles with fixed wing / rotary / hybrid wing layouts
- configurational aerodynamics and flow physics related to smart-wing technologies
- highly flexible high aspect ratio wings
- blended wing body
- laminar-flow technology
- transonic and high-speed aerodynamics
- manipulation of turbulence and vortex dominated flows
- advanced flow and load control measures
- high-lift aerodynamics and systems
The professorship is expected to strengthen the area “Security and Defense” at TUM.
Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs. The successful candidate is expected to assume responsibility for the teaching curriculum in aerodynamics and participate in further developing fluid mechanics teaching curricula.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific environment, relative to the relevant career level.
A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected.
