To support our expansion into new international markets, we are looking for a highly motivated Business Development Manager to help shape our M&A team and activities in Germany. With a clear, executable M&A strategy in place, we are ready to enter Germany with a dedicated team, and accelerate our growth.

As a Business Development Manager, you will play a crucial role in identifying and initiating contact with potential M&A prospects across Finance, Healthcare and Education in Germany. You'll be one of the first points of contact, representing Topicus and learning extensively about the local software market and entrepreneurial landscape.
The Job

Refine and implement the M&A business development strategy for Germany, assessing key markets and target profiles.

Actively identify and source potential acquisition targets through systematic research, networking, and attending industry events.

Initiate and lead outreach efforts to establish contact and build relationships with owners, founders, and C-level executives of target companies.

Conduct in-depth qualification discussions to assess strategic fit and gather initial information.

Leverage the strong relationship with onwers and sellers to guide them through the M&A processes.

Document interactions, research findings, and lead statuses accurately in our CRM.

Collaborate with the international M&A and Business Development teams to share insights and best practices.

Mentor and guide junior Business Development team members.
Your Profile

Proven track record in business development, M&A origination, strategic sales, or a similar role requiring proactive outreach and relationship building at an executive level.

Independent, proactive, and results-oriented individual, who functions well within a team.

Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills. Capable of engaging confidently and building trust with experienced entrepreneurs and senior leaders.

Strong analytical skills and financial literacy to understand financial performance, valuation and key business metrics in order to assess preliminary fit.

Organized, methodological, and detail-oriented in approach and documentation.

Established network within the software/tech industry is a significant advantage.

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably (but not mandatory) in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Sales, or a related field.

4+ years of relevant experience in a business development, sales, research, or related commercial role. Experience in software/IT or M&A/consulting is a plus.

Fluent in German (native) and English (fluent), both written and spoken.

Based in Germany and willing to travel within Germany and to the Netherlands occasionally.

Proficiency with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and standard office software.
