Responsibilities

With a mission to empower 15.6 million house owners across Germany and the broader DACH region, we at Aroundhome are building a platform where every strategic decision is powered by data. We're a team of around 250 people, and to accelerate our journey, we're looking for an experienced and hands-on Data Platform Manager to lead and inspire our team of Data Engineers.

You will report to the Director of Technology and work closely with the Team Leads Technology to ensure reliable, scalable, and accessible data across the company, while also acting as a driver who ensures that data governance and data quality aspects are taken care of. Touchpoints with other functional areas include Product, Marketing, and Product Analytics.

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 5 experienced Data Engineers (collectively bringing 26 years of experience at Aroundhome), fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment
  • Own and evolve the data platform, shaping the strategy and roadmap, ensuring it is scalable, reliable, and easy to use for all product/engineering and analytics teams
  • Work closely with the engineering, analytics, and product teams, as well as with business stakeholders, to understand their needs, translate them into platform capabilities, and remove barriers to data access and usage
  • Oversee and contribute to the architecture design and implementation of our data infrastructure, applying best practices and modern technological solutions
  • Champion key pillars such as infrastructure and reporting, data enablement and literacy, and data governance, fostering a culture of trust and excellence
  • Track platform adoption, gather feedback, and continuously enhance the organizational experience
  • Influence a data-driven company culture, promoting and enabling data-driven decision-making, and advocating for the adoption of the data platform across departments

Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Proven experience (10+ years) in a data engineering role, preferably in a B2C or marketplace environment, partnering with product managers and engineering teams
  • Demonstrated experience (5+ years) leading and managing data engineering/platform teams, as well as excellent leadership skills with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and influence the organization (as a whole)
  • Strong technical background with practical, hands-on experience in Data Engineering activities using technology such as (but not limited to) Kafka, Apache Spark, Airflow, Terraform, AWS services. Nice to have: Machine Learning Operations in cloud environments.
  • Proven track record in modernizing and scaling the data infrastructure while building a data platform-oriented organization
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities, balancing long-term investment, and thriving in a fast-paced work environment
