Job Description:

In order to support the Air Generation department, Airbus Operations is looking for a Master student in the field of air conditioning systems (d/f/m), title of thesis

Master Thesis: Performance Simulation and Optimization of an Air Conditioning Pack (d/f/m)

The air conditioning system in an aircraft provides air at specified pressure and temperature to the cabin and cockpit. In a conventional aircraft, bleed-air from the engine is used to supply the air conditioning pack. This air is no longer available for thrust generation, thus having an impact on engine and overall aircraft fuel consumption. To reduce the fuel consumption, new architectures are investigated focusing less bleed usage. On the other hand electrical energy consumption of the air conditioning pack increases leading to a trade-off in system design.
The air conditioning pack includes compressors, heat exchangers, and other components. The main challenge lies in designing this system to achieve high efficiency, minimal volume, and low weight, all while ensuring safety under all operating conditions.
This master thesis focuses on the performance optimization of an air conditioning pack. Therefore, a thermodynamic system model needs to be set up. Using a genetic optimization algorithm, the air conditioning pack shall be analyzed in terms of performance and weight.

We look forward to you supporting us in the Air Generation and Fuel Cell department as a master/bachelor student (d/f/m)!
