About Sonardyne

Sonardyne is an international technology company and a global leader in underwater communication, navigation, positioning, and data acquisition systems.
Our solutions are trusted by customers in marine science, offshore energy, and defence, where reliability, precision, and performance under extreme conditions are critical.
At our Hamburg site, we develop high-performance technology solutions for global deployment, working closely with international engineering teams, customers, and partners.

Your role

As our Senior Electronics Design Engineer, you will take technical ownership across the full electronics development lifecycle – from concept and specification through to prototyping, validation, integration, and field testing.
You will work on advanced subsea instrumentation and communication systems, contributing directly to technology that is deployed in demanding real-world environments.

What you'll do

  • Design analogue and digital electronics for subsea instrumentation and communication systems
  • Develop schematics and PCB layouts using Altium Designer
  • Simulate and analyse circuits using PSpice or comparable tools
  • Define electronic system specifications and contribute to clear technical documentation
  • Work with ARM-based microcontrollers, ideally STM32, as well as FPGAs
  • Support prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and validation
  • Contribute to EMI/EMC testing, pre-qualification, and design improvements
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, systems, and production engineering teams
  • Take responsibility across the full development cycle: specification, architecture, implementation, testing, integration, commissioning, and field trials
  • Work with international stakeholders and development teams
  • Occasionally travel for integration, testing, and field trial activities

What you bring

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a comparable qualification
  • Several years of professional experience in embedded electronics development
  • Strong experience in analogue and digital circuit design
  • Proven experience in schematic design, PCB design, and PCB layout
  • Confident use of Altium Designer
  • Experience with PSpice or equivalent circuit simulation tools
  • Hands-on experience with ARM-based microcontrollers, ideally STM32
  • Experience with FPGAs
  • Strong prototypes bring-up, debugging, and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with EMI/EMC testing and pre-qualification
  • Solid understanding of embedded architectures and low-level software
  • Excellent English and fluent German
  • A structured, proactive working style and a hands-on engineering mindset

Nice to have

  • Experience in HF circuit design
  • Experience with subsea, marine, offshore, defence, aerospace or other high-reliability technology environments

What we offer

  • A senior engineering role with real technical ownership and end-to-end responsibility
  • The opportunity to develop internationally deployed high-tech systems
  • Hybrid working model with home-office options
  • Attractive salary and bonus scheme
  • Flexible working hours
  • Modern, well-equipped working environment
  • A wide range of additional company benefits
  • Long-term perspective in an international technology company
  • Highly skilled, collaborative engineering team
