Vollzeit

Permanent W3 professorship with a focus on computational and/or experimental approaches in neuroscience
The position is jointly appointed at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, OVGU, and includes teaching two semester periods per week in the English-taught degree programs MSc Integrative Neuroscience and BSc Biomedical Sciences.

The successful candidate will establish and lead a new research group at LIN focusing on experimental and computational neuroscience or neuroengineering. The group is expected to integrate strongly into the Magdeburg scientific landscape through close collaboration with researchers at LIN, OVGU, and other local institutions. The professorship will be affiliated with the Institute of Biology at OVGU, which emphasizes molecular neurobiology, systems and regulatory biology, learning and memory, social and reproductive behavior, sensory and cognitive neuroscience, and neuroprosthetics.
Profile:
We are seeking outstanding candidates with experience in leading international research teams and a strong record of acquiring third-party funding. Applicants should be characterized by excellent international publications, successful transfer activities, and a clear scientific profile. Experience in supervising doctoral students and supporting the career development of postdoctoral researchers is required. A strong commitment to communicating research findings to the broader public is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will actively contribute to LIN’s interdisciplinary research programs Perception, Memory, and Action. They are expected to develop innovative strategies that advance the understanding the function of neural circuits and networks. Their research should pioneer methodologies and concepts that enable new insights from the extensive, multidimensional, and cross-species experimental datasets generated at the institute and in the wider field. Their research approach should inspire and initiate novel experimental studies — guided by theoretical insights — that help uncover fundamental mechanisms of learning, memory formation, perception, and behavior.

Researchers with a proven track record in neuroengineering and related fields — including neuro-inspired hardware, brain-machine interfaces, and the design of systems for neural prostheses or interventions in neurological or neuropsychiatric disorders — are also encouraged to apply.

Formal requirements include a habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements in accordance with § 35(3) HSG-LSA.
Benefits:
Remuneration follows the German W-salary scale at level W3 in accordance with the Besoldungsgesetz Sachsen-Anhalt.

The successful candidate will be appointed as a permanent professor at OVGU (civil servant or salaried employee) and will be granted leave of absence to assume the position as a research group leader at the LIN.
