The vision is a sustainable future through materials science. You can read more about WISE and the WISE Fellows program here.
Materials Science at Chalmers Materials science has a strong tradition and big strategic relevance at Chalmers combining scientific excellence with societal impact. Our work spans from fundamental and curiosity-driven studies to industrial applications and development of new technologies.
Chalmers' strong position is reflected in its participation in major national initiatives such as the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE), the Wallenberg Wood Science Center (WWSC), and the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) as well as research centers such as 2D-TECH, the Competence Center for Catalysis (KCK), FibRe - Design for Circularity, and the Center for Additive Manufacturing Metals (CAM2). These initiatives highlight our broad expertise and close collaboration with industry in, e.g., materials science, chemistry, physics, life sciences, and civil engineering. Our research community covers all aspects of advanced materials research - synthesis, processing, characterization, and property evaluation as well as theory and modeling. We educate materials scientists and engineers at the bachelor's and master's level driving the implementation of scientific advances in society.
At Chalmers, we host world-class infrastructure such as the Chalmers Materials Analysis Laboratory (CMAL), clean room facilities (Myfab) as well as advanced additive manufacturing and chemical imaging platforms. In addition we have access to outstanding national infrastructure including the MAXIV synchroton facility, the Swedish NMR center, and the National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden (NAISS).
